WEEK 15 (On the leaking porch)

Some say babies are born blind

But the truth is

Right after birth

They lock eyes with the first person they see

This look of disarming surrender

Unconditional & selfless

Is what welds us

Is the reason our hearts manage to beat

Even when we are asleep or forget we have a heart

It is with these eyes we should try & welcome

All those nameless faces in the street

Every single one of them sons & daughters

So they may remember the first look they gave when

They became sons & daughters & those eyes

That answered back

My love

The time approaches when our gazes will meet

& though you too will forget

Remember my words

So one day

You can dust off those eyes & offer them

To your worst enemy

We all deserve the chance to return the gift

With the same courage and simplicity

No matter whether the promise

Will last one blink

Or a lifetime
