CHAPTER 4
AUTO SMELTER
This small automatic smelter is very easy to make and quite helpful in a survival world. Drop smeltable items and fuel in the top two chests, and they’ll all end up smelted in the bottom.
What You Need:
3 chests
3 hoppers
1 furnace
*I’ve also used additional blocks—red brick, red brick stairs, and stone bricks—to decorate this build.
1. Dig a hole one wide and 2 long. At the front of the hole, place your chest.
2. In the hole behind the chest, place a hopper that is pointing toward the chest. (To do so, press shift and right-click the back of the chest while you hold the hopper.)
3. Place a furnace on top of the hopper. (To do this, shift-right-click the hopper with the furnace in your hand.)
4. Place a hopper pointing into the side of the chest, and another above the chest. The side hopper will place coal or other fuel into the fuel slot, and the upper hopper will place smeltable items into the furnace’s top slot.
5. Place two chests, one above each hopper you placed in step 4. The hoppers below will automatically remove items from the chest above them. You are done! You can pretty the contraption up, as I did below, or just start using it. You can also easily modify this to use double chests. And since there’s no redstone dust or repeaters and such, an accidental water spill won’t destroy this contraption.
