Reagan happened to be looking out of her bedroom window as Kennedy was strolling down the street. From what Reagan could tell, it looked like Kennedy was in a happy mood, she was walking casually like she didn’t have a care in the world, and seemed to be whistling. Seeing her sister walking toward home wasn’t a big deal, but what Kennedy carried with her was! In her hand was a black shopping bag; not just any black bag, but a bag from BARNEYS! She could spot the Barneys bag with the silver lettering anywhere. Reagan was in shock. Kennedy had never expressed any interest in shopping. Except as of late, now she was shopping at Barneys, Reagan’s favorite store. As a matter of fact, Kennedy had always ridiculed Reagan and Madison for spending too much money on clothes, and here she was apparently doing the same thing!

“What the hell is she doing shopping at MY store?!” Reagan hissed under her breath.

Reagan thought about bum-rushing her sister at the front door, and asking point blank what was in the bag, but she knew that Kennedy would give her a smart-ass answer, and she wasn’t in the mood for a verbal sparring match, especially after having been dissed by Lucas. Reagan was determined to find out what Kennedy had bought, but she had a better plan, than just straight-up asking.

Reagan waited until she heard the shower running in Kennedy’s bathroom, and then crept into her sister’s bedroom. She didn’t have to look far to satisfy her curiosity. There, lying on one of the twin beds, was a gorgeous, colorful, geometric print dress. Reagan walked closer to get a better look. She immediately looked inside at the label.

“Lia Kes!” she said, under her breath. Lia Kes was a relatively new designer, and her clothes were hot!

How the hell does Kennedy know about Lia Kes? If she’s paying top dollar for a designer dress, then she must be going someplace special, she thought. Reagan fingered the expensive material, as she pondered the situation. Then it occurred to her. I’ll bet Kennedy’s going to Lucas’s CD release party!

With that thought in mind, Reagan bolted out of Kennedy’s room, and made a dash into her own. She immediately went to the phone and called Madison.

“Hey, Rea, what’s up? I can’t talk long, I’m getting dressed for Lucas’s release party,” Madison said, all in one breath the second she picked up.

“That’s why I’m calling. I think Kennedy is going to the party with Lucas,” she blurted out.

“What makes you think that?”

“I just came out of her room, and guess what I saw?!” she asked, sounding like she had spotted the Loch Ness monster.

“What? What did you see?” Madison asked, totally intrigued.

“A dress.”

“A dress? Is that all? I thought you were going to say you saw something juicy like a box of condoms and a Playgirl magazine.”

“No, no, you don’t get it. This wasn’t an ordinary dress; it was a Lia Kes!”

“What?? Are you shitting me? Her dresses are the bomb! And not too many people know about her yet. What the hell is Kennedy doing with a designer dress like that?” Madison asked, now totally getting the point.

“That’s what I’ve been trying to tell you. Why else would she be shopping at Barneys? Personally, I didn’t think she knew where the store was. She obviously bought it to wear tonight!”

“Yeah, that does make sense, especially since Kennedy couldn’t care less about designer stuff. So, what are you going to do? Are you going to ‘accidentally’ spill some fingernail polish remover, or smear some make-up on it?”

“No, that would be too obvious and, she would know that it was me. Besides, it wouldn’t stop her from going to the party. Knowing Kennedy, she’d probably pick some ghastly thing out of her closet, and go anyway. What I need is my own invitation, so I can cozy up to Lucas, and try again to get him interested in me. Do you think your agent can get me in tonight?” Reagan asked.

“I wish, Rea, but I doubt it. These types of events are so hard to get into that if you’re not on somebody’s A list, then you can forget about getting past the velvet ropes,” Madison told her.

“Damn! Damn! Damn!” Reagan hissed, stomping her foot on the carpeted floor.

“There’s always Monday. You can try and corner him again in chemistry class, and maybe this time you’ll have more luck,” Madison said, trying to come up with another plan of attack.

“No. That’s not good enough. I can’t wait until Monday, besides I need more than a few seconds before class starts to work my magic. I need a party like tonight with a lot of people around, so that I can distract him without Kennedy looking over my shoulder.”

“That definitely sounds like a good plan, and I wish I could dig up an invite for you, but like I said, there’s no way my agent will be able to get you in,” Madison said, nearly apologizing.

“That’s okay. I know you would hook me up if you could. Let me think about this for a second,” Reagan said, getting quiet. Then a few moments later, she blurted out, “Oh, I got it! I got it!”

“What? What are you going to do?” Madison asked, wanting to know what type of devious scheme Reagan had conjured up.

“I don’t have time to explain now. Be sure to keep your cell on vibrate, and expect a call from me later tonight,” Reagan said, mysteriously.

“Okay.”

“Look, I gotta make a run before it’s too late. Don’t forget, keep your phone close,” and with that, Reagan hung up.

She grabbed her purse, and house keys, and bolted out of the front door. If her scheme worked according to plan, she would not only be at the release party, but Lucas’s new girlfriend before the night was over!
