“What the hell is that?” Colt demanded.
Scarlett smiled and held up her hands in an exaggerated fashion toward the tree. “It’s our Christmas tree,” she exclaimed.
“Why is it crooked?”
Beau stepped into the room after putting Madelyn down for the night. “Don’t ask. Just go with it.”
Scarlett rolled her eyes. “He loves it, don’t let him fool you.”
Colt’s brows drew in before he shook his head and shrugged. “Whatever makes you two happy.”
Oh, she was most definitely happy. Christmas Eve was magical here at the ranch and tomorrow was Christmas where all of the Elliotts—spouses, fiancées, and children—would gather and start a new chapter.
“I just wanted to come by and let you guys know that I spoke with the nursing home and they’re okay with us bringing Dad home for the day tomorrow.”
Beau’s eyes went from his brother to Scarlett, then back again. “Seriously?”
Colt nodded. “They said as long as he’s having a good day. They offered to send a nurse, but I truly think once he’s home, he might see something that triggers some memories, and we can care for him well enough. Even if he’s only there an hour. I think we all need it.”
Scarlett’s heart swelled as tears pricked her eyes. She crossed the room to Beau and wrapped an arm around him.
“This is great news for you guys,” she stated. “I think it’s exactly what this family needs for a fresh start.”
“I just hope he remembers,” Beau added.
Colt nodded. “I have a feeling he will. I think this is definitely a Christmas for miracles.”
He drifted his gaze toward the leaning tree. “I mean, if you can call that a Christmas tree, I think anything is possible.”
Beau laughed as he hugged Scarlett tighter against him. “That tree embodies our lives. We’re not perfect, but we’re sure as hell trying.”
Scarlett smiled as she watched the twins share an unspoken message with their eyes and their matching grins.
Yes, this was a season for miracles.
