Hi, Trenton. It’s been a really long time, but I was just wondering how you were getting on in Canada. Is it freezing cold there? We all miss you here at Compass Court. Logan is missing you most of all, of course, but the North Tower common room doesn’t seem the same without you.
Has Logan told you that we have started going out? I know it’s kind of awkward for me to be emailing you, when you’re his best friend and all – do you mind? I know that you and I almost had a thing, well, we went to the end of year dance together and I guess we would have gone on more dates if you hadn’t left. But you did, and so I’m with Logan now. Except I’m not. We were getting on so well, but yesterday we had an argument about him being late to meet me and now he’s blanking me. I don’t want to beg him to pay attention to me, but it’s only two days until the Christmas break and I can’t bear to think that it’s all over. You know him better than anyone and I really could do with some advice.

Hi, Ali. It’s great to hear from you. Yes, Canada is pretty cold, but it makes for some great skiing. I’m near a resort called Whistler, and we all head for there every weekend. But I do miss you guys too.
Please don’t worry about it being awkward– Logan spoke to me before he asked you out. Of course it’s fine, it’s not like anything ever happened between you and me (more’s the pity, lol).
Okay, so you want my advice. Logan is pretty straightforward when it comes to relationships. He wants to be wanted, but he likes it to be stress-free. I would suggest playing it cool. Do not go chasing after him, do not smother him. The best way to let him know that you are a perfect girlfriend is to be happy without him, let him see that you are not the demanding type. Just be sure that it’s the kind of relationship that you want too!

Hi, Trent, it’s me again. That’s great about the skiing, lucky you! I haven’t been in years, but my parents are actually talking about taking us (me and my sister) in the February half-term, which would be fantastic. Maybe I could suggest Whistler as a good place to go?
In the meantime, I took your advice and it didn’t really help. Today is the last day of term and Logan is still ignoring me. I’ve tried laughing and chatting in his vicinity, and he hasn’t paid any attention. I just want to burst into tears, and for him to hold me close and make it better. He would do that, wouldn’t he? Sorry to keep bothering you with this.

Hi, Ali. If you cry on him then I promise he will run for the hills. I know it seems hard, but playing it cool really is the best tactic. He won’t be going anywhere, he’s spending Christmas with his mother. Why not give him the space to miss you? In the meantime, have a happy Christmas.
