Chapter Twenty-four

Logan:

Good English class today.

Wendy:

Go away. Logan, I don’t want to do this anymore.

Logan:

Why?

Wendy:

Because I’m not enjoying it.

Logan:

Are you sure? Cal said he thought our bickering looked more like foreplay. Sounds about right to me!

Wendy:

I bet it does, you think everything is foreplay. Look, I’m sorry for the mean things I said to you back home, and I didn’t want to leave it like that, but that’s the end of it.

Logan:

Are you so sure? You can’t deny we have chemistry

Wendy:

Does the fact that you have a girlfriend mean nothing to you?

Logan lifted his fingers off the phone, thinking about her response. She had a point. He’d hardly given Alianna a second thought, and that wasn’t fair to her. He’d never cheated on a girl, at least not knowingly, he thought, wondering if kissing Wendy over Christmas would count as cheating. It wasn’t like he’d been aware he still had a girlfriend at the time. Did sending messages to Wendy count as cheating? It probably did.

Logan:

Do you want me to break up with her?

The pause was so long that Logan wondered if Wendy had fallen asleep.

Wendy:

Let me get this straight – Are you actually offering to break up with your girlfriend for me?

Logan rubbed his chin, considering her question. On the one hand, he really should break up with Alianna anyway. But should he try to explain to Wendy that it wasn’t his style to mess people around? He liked relationships kept simple, and cheating was a can of worms he couldn’t be bothered with. If you weren’t that into someone then just move on, no harm done. Plenty more fish in the sea and all that.

On the other hand, if he said yes to her question then he was kind of committing himself, which he also didn’t want to do. That would be moving to a new level he wasn’t comfortable with yet. All he really wanted was to kiss Wendy some more. But he had to be single to do that, so the break-up was unavoidable anyway... How did he word that?

Logan:

Not for you, but because of you.

Wendy:

??

Logan:

It’s inevitable that we’re going to kiss again...

Wendy:

No, we’re not. And no, I don’t want you to break up with your girlfriend for me or because of me. Just leave me alone.

Logan frowned. He got the feeling that Wendy really meant it. His emotions told him to message straight back, but his brain told him not to. After a lot of thought he sent a message to Alianna instead, asking her to meet him before breakfast to talk.
