Chapter Twenty-nine

It took Wendy a couple of days to get her head straight. First she ended things with Torrin, and then she thought long and hard about her feelings for Logan.

She liked him, really liked him. Not just because of what he’d said to her dad, but because he’d shown that he truly was the person she had suspected he was. She had totally misjudged him at first, but now she knew better.

He wasn’t totally wrong for her, he was totally right. They were chalk and cheese but they would balance each other out. He would make her lighten up and enjoy life more, and in return she would make him take it more seriously and find meaning to get more out of it.

But she needed to make a gesture. Show him that she was willing to bend a little to be with him. Of course, that was assuming he still wanted her, but it was a risk she was now willing to take.

She wasn’t going to change herself, no, never for a boy. She liked her look; it was who she was. But she could sacrifice it just once more to show Logan that she was able to give a little too. She just needed the perfect opportunity.

She picked up her phone and called home. She needed to talk to her dad, but she also wanted to speak with Marina.

THE WEDDING DATE WAS set for early February, and one week beforehand Marina picked Logan up from school for a Saturday shopping trip to Bath.

“I thought we’d start with brunch at the Roman Pump Rooms, then go to the tailor to get your suit. We’ll probably have to get a couple of alterations done, as it is more of a theme costume really, but they do incredible work.”

Logan turned in the car seat to face his mother, who was concentrating on driving, a look of total confusion on his face.

“A theme costume? Oh no, please tell me you haven’t decided on a tacky themed wedding! I thought you were going Traditional English?”

Marina giggled, “Indeed we are, but very traditional. We’re doing it full Victorian style. Didn’t Wendy tell you? It was her idea. You should see my dress – it’s almost exactly the same as the one Queen Victoria wore to her wedding. Just stunning. And Wendy has agreed to be my maid of honour and her dress is absolutely perfect too.”

“I’m sorry, but what? I didn’t know anything about it! It was Wendy’s idea? Are you serious?”

“Completely. She’s willing to go the whole hog, with a corset and everything. Though of course that isn’t possible for me.” Marina patted the small bump at her middle. “And as you’re giving me away you need to look the part as well. Doesn’t that sound fun?”

Logan forced his mouth closed; it had dropped almost to his lap.

“It’s certainly... surprising. But fun? I don’t know. Maybe...” A smile crept over his face. “Yeah, maybe a lot more fun than I had anticipated.”
