freedom of flying down a deserted road, the wind whipping across her face, the sun drying her tears. It was a place she could escape to, one with no destination in mind. Jane spent quite a lot of her teen years exploring the roads. She would get lost only to prove to herself that she could find her own way. Ellie had been the one who taught her how to drive before Jane even turned thirteen.

So signing up for a certification in driver’s education was a cinch. The woman behind the counter smiled pleasantly as she took Jane’s credentials and looked them over.

“Everything seems to be in order here,” she said. “Can you start this coming week?”

“I’d love to,” Jane replied honestly.

It had taken her months of planning to come up with the perfect way to get close to Samantha. Like all the others, Jane studied her in order to acquire information with which she could then make plans. Samantha was a loner, someone who didn’t quite fit in, that maybe felt the need to escape. Driving was a step closer to independence, one Jane could relate to. Someone as rebellious as Samantha wasn’t going to stay put for long. This accelerated course that the teen signed up for would give Jane a good amount of hours to dive into Samantha’s mind. It would aid her in her quest to turn Dave Collin’s life completely inside out.

“Great, just sign here, Elizabeth, and you’re all set.”

Jane smiled, “You can call me Ellie.”
