CHAPTER 46

The next day, when Molly woke up, she knew it was going to be a really amazing day at camp.

The sun was out and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky.

Ripley started the day leading a Jazzercise class with Barney, whose high kicks were getting better and better every week.

Jo started the day in the shop finishing up the work she’d started with Heddie, adjusting some wiring on their soon-to-be-completed boxcar, Laverne. Which was lighter than Heddie ever could have imagined possible and very very fast.

April spent the day writing so seriously and intently that she eventually drew the interest of Rosie, who was passing by with a bag of what looked like blue ping-pong balls, but alive?

Maybe.

“What are you up to, scout?” Rosie asked.

“It’s a new genre,” April said, looking up from her notepad. “Creative Fantasy Non-Fiction.”

“Interesting,” Rosie said.

“Maybe not a new new genre,” April admitted. “It’s somewhat inspired by some alumnae creative works that I’ve been reading lately.”

“Some very inspiring writers have come through these lands,” Rosie agreed.

April bent her head back down.

“What are you going to call it?” Rosie asked.

“Right now it’s just called The Lumberjanes,” April admitted. “But I’m open to new titles.”

“Keep it simple.” Rosie gave a thumbs-up. “Oh, and thank you for the Seal.”

“No problem.” April nodded. “Let us know if you want to borrow some equipment to put it back.”

“I’ll manage, thank you, scout,” Rosie said.

And then, as was Rosie’s way, she walked off to do whatever it is Rosie does.

April licked her lips and tapped her pencil on her pad. There were so many adventures a person could potentially write about. It was impossible to choose.

“I’ll just have to write about all of them,” she told herself.

Better get started.

Meanwhile, over at a picnic bench, Mal and Molly spent the day working on their accordion duet, having recently switched to “Closer to Fine.”

Looking over her accordion, Mal grinned. “Is it me or is today an amazing day to be a Lumberjane?”

“I was just thinking that.” Molly smiled.

Because, okay, it’s been said, but it’s true, every day really is a great day to be a Lumberjane.

Especially when you get to share it with someone awesome.
