Epilogue

Ella

Chicago, Illinois

5 weeks later

“Purple unicorn! Purple Unicorn! Purple Unicorn!” Noah ran around the lobby of the tattoo shop yelling like a five-year-old.

I slumped down in my seat and pretended like I’d never seen him before.

Jesse sat in the chair next to me, looking cool as a cucumber, and I had to laugh.

“You’re not worried? Not even a little bit?”

Jesse shrugged. “I’ve had a bunch of stupid shit tattooed on my body. Some I picked, some others picked for me. I like to think it’s all part of my journey.”

“Plus, it’s fun to show them at parties,” my brother tossed in from Jesse’s other side. “I’ve won a bet or two with these pretties.” He petted the SpongeBob inspired flowers on his inner bicep.

“The number of women who’ve asked to see my pink unicorn…” Jesse paused and cleared his throat when he caught the look I was shooting at him. “Is, um, unimportant. It’s about the memories.”

“Right.” I raised my eyebrows. “Like losing a gross bet?”

“Who told her about the bet?” Noah asked in an overloud voice.

I rolled my eyes. “Everyone knows about the bet.

“Yeah,” Shay tossed in from Chase’s other side. “And it’s gross.”

“And juvenile.” I shook my head. “I really thought you guys were grown men. Responsible. Pillars of society.”

“Whatever.” Noah snorted. “You’re just annoyed because you’re the reason Jesse lost this year.”

I tilted my head as I stared Noah down. “Correction. I’m the reason Jesse is going to lose every year.”

“Preach, sister!” Shay crowed before jumping out of her chair and coming around the guys to high five me. “And ditto for me and Chase. I’m proud to be married to a loser.”

I opened my mouth to correct her—Chase had actually won their gross contest a few times—but I decided not to.

“Jesse?” the heavily tattooed and gorgeous man standing in the doorway called. “I’m ready for you.”

“All right.” Jesse pressed a kiss against my temple and pushed himself up. “Are you going to come in and hold my hand, sweet girl?”

“Ella?” another just as attractive man called next to the first. “I’m ready for you too.”

“Wait, what?” Jesse paused mid slouch. “What are you getting tattooed? And where?”

I bounded out of my seat. “Wouldn’t you like to know?”

“Yes!” Jesse shouted after me. “I would like to know. I would very much like to know!”

“Shay?” I called, ignoring the behemoth behind me. “You coming to hold my hand?”

“Yep!” Shay squealed, running to my side.

Noah blinked solemnly. “I’ll hold your hand, Jesse.”

“Oh fuck off,” Jesse bit out. “This is all your fault, you know.”

“I know.” Noah grinned wolfishly. “It’s so fucking delicious.”

“Relax, Jesse.” I patted his back as he passed me in the hallway. “It’s all about the journey, right?”

His eyes promised retribution that I knew he’d never deliver. He loved me too much.

And that’s the story of how I got a tattoo of a pink unicorn kissing a purple unicorn…on my ass.

It matches the one on Jesse’s.
