instructions
Seam allowances are a scant ¼˝ unless otherwise noted. Press all seams open unless otherwise noted.
Petal Blocks
See Fusible Machine Appliqué to appliqué the blocks.
1. Create 96 appliqué shapes using the Petal Plus petal pattern, aqua rectangles, and paper-backed fusible web. Arranging the petal appliqué shapes at a 45° angle on the rectangles allows for more efficient use of the fabric.
Petal appliqué shape layout
The petal appliqué shapes can also be cut with any of the AccuQuilt fabric cutting systems using the GO! Orange Peel 4½˝ (#55455) fabric cutting die to save time.
2. Fold a white 11½˝ square in half horizontally, press to make a crease, and repeat vertically to aid in petal placement (shown as dotted lines on the petal placement guide).
3. Center, arrange, and fuse 4 appliqué petal shapes into a circle 1¼˝ from each side of the square.
4. Center and iron stabilizer onto the back of the square. Repeat to make 24 Petal blocks.
Petal placement
5. Using a zigzag satin stitch, appliqué around the inner sides of the petal shapes, pivoting where the petals touch. Without stopping, pivot and appliqué completely around the circle formed by the petals according to the petal stitch path diagram. Carefully remove the stabilizer.

6. Trim the Petal blocks to 11˝ × 11˝.
Sashing
1. Sew 1 red strip and 1 white 8½˝ × WOF strip together. Cut the strip set into 6 single sashing pieces 3˝ × 11˝.
Single sashing pieces
2. Sew 2 red strips and 1 white 6˝ × WOF strip together. Cut the strip set into 12 double sashing pieces 3˝ × 11˝.
Double sashing pieces
3. Sew together 2 white 3˝ × 8½˝ rectangles, 3 red rectangles, and 2 white 3˝ × 6˝ rectangles to make a sashing row measuring 3˝ × 50˝. Repeat to make 5 sashing rows.

Quilt Top Assembly
1. Arrange the Petal blocks in a 4 × 6 arrangement along with the single sashing pieces, double sashing pieces, and the sashing rows according to the quilt top assembly diagram.
2. Sew the Petal blocks, single sashing pieces, and double sashing pieces into rows. Sew the rows and the sashing rows together to make the quilt top, which should measure 50˝ × 76˝ before the borders are added.
Borders
1. Sew 2 white 9½˝ × WOF strips together end to end. Repeat to make a total of 2 pieced side strips.
2. Measure the average height of the quilt top, and trim the 2 pieced side strips to fit (approximately 76˝). Attach the side borders to the quilt top.
3. Sew 2 white 6½˝ × WOF strips together end to end. Repeat to make a total of 2 pieced top/bottom strips.
4. Measure the average width of the quilt top, and trim the 2 top/bottom strips to fit (approximately 68˝). Attach the top and bottom borders to the quilt top.
Finishing
Refer to Finishing Your Quilt as needed.
1. To make the quilt back, cut the backing fabric into 2 pieces each 96˝ × WOF, trim off the selvage edges, and sew the pieces together along the trimmed selvage edges. Trim to approximately 76˝ × 96˝.
2. Layer the quilt top, batting, and backing. Baste and quilt as desired. Bind and enjoy! This version of Petal Plus was quilted in an allover leaf and feather combination.
