Resizing the default cube

For this project, the default cube can contribute to our final model. Instead of deleting it, like we did in Chapter 2, Using a Background Image and Bezier Curves, we can resize it to our needs. We are going to use the Mirror Modifier later in this chapter, so we will only be modeling half of the base. Since the eventual curved edges will add to the total length, I'm going to make this cube 10mm long (X), 15mm wide (Y), and 2mm high (Z).

As we saw in Chapter 3, Converting a Bezier Curve to a Properly Sized 3D Mesh, the Transform section of the Properties Shelf is a great way to size objects when you have specific dimensions in mind. The steps for resizing the default cube are as follows:

  1. The default cube should automatically be selected when you start a new project. If not, right-click on it to select it.
  2. Click on the + icon or hit N to display the Properties Shelf.
  3. Under Transform, find Dimensions and set the X, Y, and Z dimensions accordingly. The example I'm going with is 10, 15, and 2:
