Who cheers up the cheerleaders
when their team has lost the game?
When the star wide-receiver
has suddenly gone lame?
Who cheers up the cheerleaders
when the cheerful mask slips?
Wipes the tears of the running back
When he stumbles and trips?
Who cheers up the cheerleaders
when the home fans hiss and boo?
Makes the tight ends giggle
when they’re feeling sad and blue?
Who cheers up the cheerleaders
when they’re down in the dumps?
Gently rubs liniment
into the quarterback’s lumps?
Who cheers up the cheerleaders’ leader
after nine games lost in a row?
(Probably one of the linebackers,
to be honest I really don’t know.)
But I do know how much we shall miss them
when they put their pom poms away,
So three hearty cheers for the cheerleaders
