One Mild Morning in Early November

How a troop suddenly appeared out of nowhere
in the heart of East Hackney beggars belief.
But in less than a minute Broadway Market
was engulfed in a tsunami of silverbacks.
Stalls overturned and tables swept aside.
Organic vegetables slapped and torn apart
as the mob knuckle-strutted down the street.
Hipsters and baristas ran for cover
as teeth bared and shrieking with delight,
the young swung from awning to awning,
scattering lattes and gluten-free cakes.
As sirens blared and armed men came running
the gorillas disappeared into the mist
that hung like a reprimand across London Fields.
