What keeps me awake at night

are not questions like (yes, you guessed)

What keeps you awake at night? but

What will your last poem be about?

I get out of bed, open the curtains,

and try to outstare the moon.

As you are writing it, will you know

it is going to be your last poem?

Invariably I blink first. But not always.

And if you did, would you spend more time on it?

Should the moon blink first, usually towards dawn,

it’s game over and back to bed.

Do you think that poems have to rhyme?
