Facetious with all five vowels in the right order
is a clever word and it knows it.
Used sneeringly with a final ‘shush’
it brooks no argument.
Carbuncle, on the other hand,
can’t make up its mind what it means.
Boil? Gemstone? Mythical dragon?
Nothing to do with cars, carbs or uncles.
Finding themselves in the title of a poem,
both words are confused, especially carbuncle
which for good reason, feels exposed.
Facetious, however, saunters into the spotlight,
