Twenty-Eight

Gloria had been Nar's prisoner for a few weeks, her fate still to be decided by Nar, who was now the King. Nar had been interrogating her, trying to figure the whereabouts of Julian, but she wasn't speaking a word about it. Search parties had been sent out, many search parties, but they found no sign of Julian anywhere. Gloria really didn't know where Julian had gone. He could've been anywhere on the entire planet.

Besides Julian's whereabouts, Nar had interrogated her about their reasons and motives. She refused to say anything about that, until Nar snapped. He lunged for her, grabbing her around the throat. Gloria gasped as the rest of her breath rushed out of her. Nar slammed her head against the hard, concrete wall. Gloria cried out in pain as stars danced in her eyes. Nar put his lips really close to her ear.

“Look, you disgusting, filthy, treacherous, jealous bitch,” Nar spat hatefully. Gloria tried to breathe, but Nar had a firm grip around her neck as he squeezed. She made a strange, strangled choking noise. Nar glared at her, pinning his eyes to hers.

“I'm so tired of playing the quiet game with you. Tell me what it is I want to know, or so help me I will kill you right here without thinking twice. I'm not in the mood today,” Nar growled. Gloria managed a nod, and Nar released her. He gave her a minute to regain her breath. She coughed, sucking in rattling breaths through her mouth, letting the air fill her lungs. Nar drew his sword and put the tip just under her chin.

“Start talking. Now,” Nar hissed, purple eyes glowing bright and vivid with lividity. His eyes seared her. Gloria gulped and started talking.

“Julian wanted your throne. He wanted to be King. He was jealous of you and your father since you both inherited the family powers, but he hadn't. He felt he deserved the throne after his brother died, not you. So, he planned to overthrow you by killing you, and I helped him,” Gloria sputtered, her words stumbling out of her mouth in a jumble. Some of it she had to repeat because she was shaking so much.

“Why were you a part of it?” Nar asked smoothly.

“I was jealous,” Gloria gasped. “I was jealous of Simina. She always had your attention, so much prettier, when I wanted you. Everyone seemed to always choose her over me. I hated it. I hated her, and I still hate her. I wanted to be Queen. Then I met Julian. We connected through our jealousy and hate. He told me of his plan. I offered to help him, but in return, after you were dead, he'd marry me so I'd be Queen. We were supposed to kill you at the ball, you and Simina. But you refused the drink. So we made another plan and Julian hired some mercenaries. That's why I became apart of it.”

“And where is Julian now?” Nar asked again, for the millionth time. Gloria shook her head.

“I don't know. I really don't know. He has no way of contacting me,” Gloria said.

“What are the names of these mercenaries?”

Gloria told him all of the names. Satisfied, Nar sheathed his sword. He thanked her and promptly left the dungeon. He sent out guards and soldiers to find the people of the names Gloria had given.

Soon, Nar's dungeon was filled with many treacherous traitors.
