Legend has it this drink can be traced back to the early 1900s, when American Rough Riders aided Cuba during the Spanish-American War. A classic mash-up of American culture with the Caribbean, this has become one of the most iconic sippers of our hemisphere. While it is technically a pre-Prohibition drink, it received wide popularity in the 1930s and especially ’40s.

    2 ounces (60 ml) rum (Appleton V/X)

    4 ounces (120 ml) cola (Boylan Cane Cola or Mexican Coke)

    2 lime slices, for muddling

Muddle the lime gently in a rocks glass. Top with ice. Add rum and cola.
