Woodsy, citrus, richly aromatic
Picnic perfect—try alongside cured salmon, grilled meats, or apples and cheese.
Serious Scotch drinkers and men of the kilt should avert their eyes here—we mean no offense by “sullying” Scotch with ginger and lemon. But think of it this way: on a forest picnic, you might crave a peaty refresher, and say you have a hip flask with a bit of Scotch sloshing about? Why not break off a branch for a stirring rod, spread out your tartan blanket, and serve yourself one of these for a change? A scrap of moss makes a very nice coaster.
1 ounce (30 ml) blended Scotch (Dewar’s or Famous Grouse)
1 teaspoon powdered sugar
1 ounce (30 ml) fresh lemon juice
2 dashes Angostura bitters
4 ounces (120 ml) ginger beer (page 247)
Lemon wheel, for garnish
Add ingredients to a highball glass filled with ice and stir. Garnish with a lemon wheel in the glass.
