Robust, coconut, spice
This makes a fun Halloween party starter. Serve with Caribbean-spiced wings or fried plantains.
Arrgh! This be the drink of pirates. Similar to Navy Grog, but traditionally made without citrus, Bumbo was the preferred drink of swashbucklers. Surprisingly, the concoction was also commonly used to bribe voters during elections, employed even by George Washington in his campaign for the Virginia House of Burgess. While the classic recipe adds a little water to overproof rum, we like to add coconut water to aged rum for fuller flavor.
2 ounces (60 ml) aged rum (Flor de Caña 12 Year)
2 ounces (60 ml) coconut water
½ teaspoon molasses
Freshly grated nutmeg, for garnish
Dash of cinnamon, for garnish
Lime wedge, for garnish
Shake ingredients with ice, and strain into a rocks glass with a large ice cube. Garnish with the lime wedge.
