Nutmeg, coconut, orange
An easy accompaniment to coconut shrimp, conch fritters, and plantain chips.
Pusser’s rum trademarked the Painkiller, and you can use Pusser’s Navy Rum, but other rum options work well, too. This is an easygoing tropical classic that goes down fast, and does what its name suggests. Word is, it hails from a bar in the British Virgin Islands called the Soggy Dollar—and is shaken rather than blended because there was no electricity on Jost Van Dyke.
Note: This calls for a can of Coco Lopez coconut cream, which is coconut milk sweetened with sugar cane syrup—a tropical drink staple.
2½ ounces (75 ml) dark rum (Pusser’s Navy Rum)
4 ounces (120) fresh pineapple juice
1 ounce (30 ml) fresh orange juice
1 ounce (30 ml) coconut cream (Lopez)
Freshly grated nutmeg, for garnish
Shake ingredients with ice and pour unstrained into a highball or hurricane glass. Garnish with nutmeg.
