ONE OF THE LOVELIEST LADIES OF THE EVENING
Babe Wallace, a prostitute from Tacoma, Washington, was arrested for running a house of ill repute in Dawson in 1898 but was let off with a fine of fifty dollars. She did so well at the trade she soon purchased a piano, a nearly unheard of luxury of the Far North. Well respected by most of the locals, she married Captain Hill Barrington, a handsome and prosperous steamboat man. Later she divorced him and left the Yukon, dying young in 1911.
