About the Author
Carol Queen grew up in Oregon. She started her activist life there in the mid-1970s as a queer organizer, and subsequently worked as an AIDS educator. In the mid-80s she moved to San Francisco to pursue a doctorate in sexology, which she received in 1998.
Along with Real Live Nude Girl, Queen is the author of Exhibitionism for the Shy and The Leather Daddy and the Femme, which won the Firecracker Alternative Book Award. She is co-editor (with Lawrence Schimel) of Switch Hitters: Lesbians Write Gay Male Erotica and Gay Men Write Lesbian Erotica and PoMoSexuals: Challenging Gender and Sexual Orientation. She is co-editor (with Jack Davis) of Sex Spoken Here: Tales from the Good Vibrations Erotic Reading Circle and (with Bill Brent) two volumes of Best Bisexual Erotica. She is an associate editor of Libido magazine. Her own erotic writing has been included in the Best American Erotica series and has appeared in many other short story collections and periodicals.
Queen writes a monthly opinion column for Spectator, Northern California’s sex newsweekly, from which several of the essays in Real Live Nude Girl are derived. She has been a worker/ owner at Good Vibrations since 1990, where as Staff Sexologist she assists in staff education and represents the business to the media. She has appeared in several sex ed videos, most notably Bend Over Boyfriend: A Couple’s Guide to Male Anal Pleasure. She conducts workshops and trainings with her partner Robert Morgan Lawrence, and together they are working to found an educational nonprofit called The Center for Sex & Culture.
Queen is a frequent lecturer at colleges and universities in the Bay Area and elsewhere. She lives in San Francisco with Robert and their two cats, Teacup and Bracelet. Visit her on the web at
