DOGGO DONUTS

MAKES 6 DOGGIE DONUTS.

Of all my recipes, this is the number one recipe I get the most feedback about and have seen the most imitations of. I think it comes down to the fact that, human or doggo, we all love our donuts!

Donuts:

1 cup whole wheat flour

1 teaspoon cinnamon

½ cup applesauce

2 tablespoons honey

1 egg, beaten

3 tablespoons warm water

Icing:

¼ cup plain yogurt drops

1. Preheat oven to 175°C / 345°F. Lightly grease 6 wells of a regular donut tray.

2. Combine flour and cinnamon in large bowl.

3. Add applesauce, honey, and egg to a small bowl and whisk until well combined.

4. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix to form a thick batter.

5. Mix in the warm water if the batter is too dry.

6. Fill each donut mold to the top.

7. Bake for 20 minutes or until cooked through. To test, insert a toothpick into the donut. If it comes out clean, the donuts are ready and can be removed from the oven.

8. Allow to cool completely, then remove from pan.

9. Melt the yogurt drops in a small heat-safe bowl over boiling water.

10. Dip each donut in the yogurt. Set aside on a baking rack to set, and serve.

HANDY HINT: Get creative with your doggie donut toppings! Try raspberries, liver sprinkles, or drizzled carob for variation.
