THAT NIGHT
THE NILE EGYPTIAN MUSEUM, FREMONT, CA
––––––––
SETI HAD TAKEN SELENE to another room which reminded her more of the palace than anything else. The floors were marble and the walls were grand. Many tapestries hung from great heights, one after another. They prompted Selene to reminisce about the rugs that filled the palace floors.
What was different were that all these boxes or containers that you could look right through. There were knives and swords laid out. A warrior’s helmet even. A lot of pottery of jugs and cups. Everything was arranged for viewing. It all looked so familiar.
Pointing to his left, he redirected her focus.
There is an upright position stood a mummy in a glass case. He was adorned with a gold necklace with 6 rows of flatten gold beads. Atop his head they had places a tall crown. It was at least ten inches high made from solid gold as well. It had a full cobra in striking position affixed to the front.
The rest of the mummy was still in dark linen cloth still coated in resin. Small amulets that were meant for protection from evil, were still attached.
Selene turned to look at Seti. “You woke up in here?” she asked. Seti nodded yes. Somewhat shocked Selene uttered her next words, “Is ... Is... Is that you?” Seti raised one eyebrow and smirked. He could see Selene’s eyes brighten with acknowledgement that they found themselves where their remains now rest.
They had been at the palace of the Gods for centuries. They had enjoyed the perfect palace surrounded by Kings, Queens, Pharaohs, and Nobles. They just had not appreciated what had actually taken place.
Now Seti and Selene came to the realization that their tombs had been exposed and their cadavers removed from their sanctity of their burial chamber. All that care and preparation their noble people placed in ensuring their safe passage to the land of the Gods was undone by the simple act of pulling them from their sarcophagus.
