Chapter Fourteen

Ming-Yue Song

Ming-Yue organized everything down to the last detail, from how they would get there to what everyone expected of her. It was essential to her to know everything was in place; it kept her grounded after everything that had happened. The hole within her where the ley line power had filled her and this new trickle of some dark gift gnawed at her energy—it had to be purged from. her system. But purification would have to wait until they completed the mission. Her duty always took precedence over anything she could imagine, even herself. For now, she had to get everyone prepared, including herself.

She took out her older grimoire, the family tome, to search for a spell to glance over. She knew the spell she had memorized and practiced for this mission. There were a few that she usually wouldn't attempt alone, but given Jun’s inability in the last battle and how dangerous Bù Wěndìng de Jūmín was, she needed every advantage she could.

One by one, Ming-Yue copied spells from the ancient book into her traveling book, which helped her memorize them better after casting them on an open space hundreds of times. It helped her focus on a few of the spells so she could cast them quickly, one after another, with extra power she had gained from drawing in earth’s energy beforehand and then using it as fuel. It wasn’t perfect, but she had to succeed. Everyone was depending on her.

Hours slipped away quickly, and Ming-Yue did not know where they went. She finished what she could to prepare for the coming fight. She showered and changed into a freshly charmed woven linen outfit that fit her comfortably. It allowed her movement and pockets for the potions to drink when they found Bù Wěndìng de Jūmín.

She sent Kai to fetch her twin as the other circle members headed to their vehicles. Rayne had been deep in studying the grimoire, reading, and memorizing spells since she had left her study.

Ming-Yue took her bag and joined the other members of the circle. She gave words of encouragement, helped spell several charms on younger members, loaded several members onto the vehicles, and waited for her sister to join Kai finally. Rayne had several bags, holding the grimoire and notebook, crammed with notes.

"Ready to go," Rayne said, heading into the only van left.

"Good, the plane is waiting for us to join them. We will be landing in Pittsburgh and driving into West Virginia. The search will start once we arrive. We have an old campsite rented out for us," Ming-Yue explained, getting in as Kai shut the door.

The driver drove off once everyone was inside to head toward the airport.
