“HOLD STILL, you two!” Matt fussed, as he tried to adjust the video camera.
Sebastian and Ray sat side by side on the velvet divan in Sebastian’s cottage. All around them, moving boxes held most of Sebastian’s belongings. He and Ray had gone through both houses and decided what would stay and what would go.
Ray had his arm around Sebastian, and Sebastian had his hand on Ray’s leg.
“Dearest, will this take long? The movers will be here in two hours.”
“It depends on how you answer my questions,” Matt said. He straightened. “Got it.” He sat on a chair across from them. “Ready?”
“I was born ready.” Sebastian gave him a naughty grin.
Ray laughed. “I am ready.”
Matt started the camera. “Interview one. Sebastian LaGrange and Raymond Chou.” He looked down at something scribbled on a notepad. “Thank you for talking to me.”
“Not at all.”
“My pleasure.” They answered at the same time.
“When did you first fall in love?”
Ray looked at Sebastian. “From the moment I saw him.”
Sebastian inclined his head toward Ray. “He had me at hello.”
“Falling in love at your age—were you scared?”
“Terrified, lamb.” Sebastian chuckled.
“I had always hoped I would find someone.” Ray squeezed Sebastian’s leg. “And I did.”
“So how long before you decided to move in together?”
“Well, technically, we’d dated for about three months, then went to France and lived together there for two months before we returned home to New Orleans. We’re making it permanent today,” Sebastian explained. “I’m moving in with Ray.”
They turned to each other and grinned like kids.
“It’s a big step.”
“Not if it’s the right step,” Ray said.
“Is it the right step?” Matt looked deep into Sebastian’s eyes.
“Oh yes. It’s the best thing I’ve ever done for myself.”
Matt smiled. Tears welled up in his eyes, but he blinked them away. “What will you do with your house?”
“Well, I haven’t told them yet, but I’m letting my two young darling boys have it, rent-free. They’ve been cramped in the rear apartment for years, and I think it’s time for them to spread out.”
Matt’s jaw dropped. “What?” He twisted around, looking for Lane, no doubt. “Lane!” he called out. Then he remembered the camera, shot Sebastian a frown, and cleared his throat. He whispered, “I’ll edit that out. Thank you, Sebastian, from both of us. That’s so generous of you. I know Lane will be over the moon.”
Sebastian winked. Wait until they found out he was leaving them the house and all his properties in his will. Of course, he wouldn’t be there to see it, but he knew his boys would be thrilled and treat his beloved cottage right. It was time she saw new owners, owners who loved and were deeply committed to each other.
Matt shuffled through his notes, all disjointed and distracted. At last he sighed and ran a hand through his hair as he tried to regain his composure.
“May I ask one more question for now?”
“Of course, lamb.” Sebastian waved at him with his hand.
Ray nodded.
“May I ask how old you are?” Matt smirked.
“I am seventy-one,” Ray said, as he turned to Sebastian.
Sebastian looked straight into the camera. “I’m seventy-three years young.”
