To have a variety of block designs at your fingertips, consider adding one of the following excellent reference books to your quilt-book library:
Beyer, Jinny. The Quilter’s Album of Patchwork Patterns: 4050 Pieced Blocks for Quilters. Breckling Press, 2009.
Brackman, Barbara. Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns. American Quilter’s Society, 1993.
As you develop your skills, you may want to invest in a few basic books on quilting. There are many available in a wide range of topics. Of all the books in my quilting library, the ones I refer to most are:
Fons, Marianne and Liz Porter. Quilter’s Complete Guide, rev. ed. Leisure Arts, 2004.
Hanson, Joan and Mary Hickey. The Joy of Quilting. Patchwork Place, 1995.
For color guidance, you can’t beat the following. Although these books are not new, the information is timeless. Look for both at Amazon.com or other online sources.
Barnes, Christine. Color: The Quilter’s Guide. That Patchwork Place, 1997.
Wolfrom, Joen. Color Play: Easy Steps to Imaginative Color in Quilts. C&T Publishing, 2000.
