APRIL 1969

Apache Troop infantry from Tay Ninh put a big dent in the enemy’s transportation system when GIs blew up a bicycle factory containing seventy-five bicycles. The number of nearby bunkers indicated a regimental-sized base camp had also been established there.

The Blues encountered withering fire from an NVA platoon as they withdrew after blowing up the factory. They scattered the enemy by employing their machine guns in a crossfire, only to be attacked by a second enemy platoon near their extraction PZ. Artillery and air strikes broke up this attack. Huey slicks snatched the Blues out of the jungle and returned them to Tay Ninh.

That night, B-52s from Guam made final work of the Communist positions with an Arc Light mission. It cracked and blazed on the horizon like a severe electrical storm while troops at Tay Ninh watched in awe.
