Turmeric-Milk Tonic
Ingredients
• 1/2 tsp dried turmeric powder
• 1 tsp fresh ginger, minced
• 1/4 cup water
• 3/4 cup milk
Directions
• Blend liquid and dry ingredients and heat the mixture for a few minutes, until the milk almost boils.
• If you want to add 1/4 teaspoon of peppercorns, which are thought to improve the absorption of the turmeric, do so before heating. For extra flavor try adding a few pods of cardamom (cracked) and a pinch of saffron to the liquid before heating.
• Let the mixture cool slightly, then strain and drink.
Benefits: This traditional tonic for sore or raspy throats will help ease pain and reduce inflammation. Turmeric is a natural anti-inflammatory and painkiller that inhibits COX-2, which is an enzyme that speeds up the production of chemical messengers called prostaglandins that promote inflammation. As a result, turmeric has been used for many centuries in Chinese medicine to treat arthritis and rheumatism. Fresh ginger is an anti-inflammatory that reduces pain and soreness as well as supporting digestion.
