PRONUNCIATION GUIDE

This Dakota orthography, or way of representing the language’s sounds in written symbols, was created at the University of Minnesota. This orthography is one of many used by Nakota, Lakota, and Dakota speakers. All written forms of Dakota are good for learning the language.

Absent from the Dakota language are these English consonants: f, j, l, q, r, v, and x.
