Colin may have promised not to go to the media, but he vowed he'd put things right for Grace. At the moment though, there was little else he could do but beg Maureen's forgiveness. If she had seen the story already, she'd know it was him. If she hadn't, he'd have to show it to her. Either way, he had no idea how he was going to explain it to her.
As he had done thousands of times before, he walked up the driveway to the door. He set his bag on the floor in the kitchen and called her name.
There was no answer.
Her car had been parked out front, so she was there somewhere. He held back one of the plastic construction curtains and stepped into the hallway. From upstairs he heard a noise, so he followed it.
"Maureen," he called again.
The sound was coming from their bedroom. It was her voice — a muffled giggle. Perhaps she was on the phone.
He pushed open the bedroom door to see her kneeling, naked on the bed. Beneath her, lay Henry.
