The first place you will probably have hair on your face is on your upper lip and chin. It will probably be just a little teeny amount (like the fuzz on a peach). You can remove this by shaving or by using a special depilatory powder made for men and boys who get “bumps” when they shave.
There is no medical reason to remove the hair from your face, but many boys find they are more comfortable without it. If you do decide to shave, when you first start you might only need to do it every few days because the hair won’t grow that quickly.
The best way to learn about shaving is to talk to a male adult in your life (or an older brother) and get him to show you how to do it. For many boys, their first shave feels like an important part of becoming an adult.
As you get older, the adults in your life will start expecting you to take more responsibility for things, including your oral hygiene (which is a fancy way of saying mouth care). And even though there is no longer an adult standing over you making sure you brush your teeth, now is the time to build good habits that will keep your teeth looking good for a lifetime.
You probably know someone (maybe a grandparent) who has lost their teeth and now has fake ones that they take out at night and keep in a cup by the bed! We know a lot more about dental care now than we did when they were young, so losing your teeth to tooth decay does not have to be a usual part of getting older.
Brushing is the most important thing you can do to keep your pearly whites, uh, pearly white. Besides brushing, flossing is another important thing you can do to help your teeth and gums stay healthy. Flossing removes food bits and bacteria from between your teeth. It helps avoid cavities and keeps your gums strong.
