58. You’ve got a big but

Like you, I should be creative, rich, and happy, but I’ve got a laundry list of excuses. I would be,

. . . but I started too late.

. . . but I live in the wrong place.

. . . but my parents wouldn’t let me.

. . . but I have kids.

. . . but I have bills to pay.

Like you, I have a big but.

These are all valid excuses, and, as with all reliable habits, we lean on them like crutches—perfectly good reasons to avoid risks and remain unhappy. Our “buts” keep us safe and give us an easy out. Like the fox from Aesop’s fable, we didn’t really want success anyway. Blame it on your “but.”

Still, at some point, you gotta stop listening to your “but.” Ignore the reasons you can’t, didn’t, shouldn’t, and won’t.

There’s nothing standing in your way except your big but.
