Writing this book has been a real journey and wouldn’t have been possible without many amazing people.
My first thanks go to my precious little boy Jack. He came into our home and our lives like a whirlwind in the spring of 2011 and we will be forever changed by him in the most amazing way. He has taught us so much about ourselves. Everything we do from now is about making the best possible life for him and giving him parents he can be proud of and role models that show him that anything is possible if you love something enough.
Huge thanks also go to my wonderful husband Sandy who supports me in what I love to do. He puts up with soup and toasted sandwiches for tea, threads on all his clothes, quilt tops hung over every door and fabric piled on every flat surface in the house. He rarely moans - unless there’s no room to sit down and tie his shoelaces or the piles of fabric extend into the kitchen!
Thanks also to my Mum for instilling the love of fabric in me, and to both Mum and Dad for giving me my first sewing machine and for looking at my newly made quilts and ‘oohing’ and ‘ahhing’ at appropriate times.
Many many thanks go to the folks at F&W: Sarah Callard and Ali Myer first and foremost for liking my work enough to ask me to do a book and Heather Haynes for being ultra-patient during the editing process.
Thanks also go to the designers and fabric manufacturers who have supported me with this project:
• Art Gallery Fabrics (www.artgalleryfabrics.com)
• Blend Fabrics (www.blendfabrics.com)
• Robert Kaufman Fabrics (www.robertkaufman.com)
• Michael Miller Fabrics (www.michaelmillerfabrics.com)
• Moda Fabrics (www.unitednotions.com)
• Lu Summers (www.blu-shed.blogspot.com)
• Patty Young (www.modkidboutique.com)
And the most amazing long-arm quilter, Christine Marriage, who has lovingly transformed many of the quilts in this book from nice quilts to amazing heirlooms, often at short notice. I don’t know what I would have done without you!
Last, but certainly not least, huge thanks go to the Fat Quarterly folks for their patience when I was too busy on Planet Book to have much mental capacity left for anything else. Love you all!
