This petite Pains au chocolat is the best way to enjoy crispy petits in a sweet and savory style. Made out of pastry dough and chocolate, it’s best for breakfast as well as snacks.
Ingredients (6 servings)
1 (14-ounce) package of cold pastry dough
12 ounces semisweet chocolate, broken
1 large egg, beaten
Preparation
At 425 degrees F, preheat your oven. Layer 2 baking sheets with parchment sheet. Spread the puff pastry into 1/8-inch sheet. Cut the pastry sheet into sixteen 3 ½ X 4 ½ -inch rectangles. Place one piece of chocolate at the center of each rectangle and fold the sides over the chocolate like a letter. Seal the edge with whisked egg. Repeat the same steps with the remaining rectangles, chocolate, and the egg wash. Place the 8 pastries on each baking sheet and bake for about 10 minutes. Then reduce the oven’s heat to 375 degrees F and bake for another 15 minutes until golden. Transfer the pains au chocolat to a wire rack and let them cool. Serve.
