Andy’s red hair
Stuck up in the air.
His nose had freckles
And his skin was fair.
Now,Andy felt gloomy
About how he looked.
When he looked in a mirror,
He always sulked.
He went for a walk and
Bumped into a tree.
Mom said, “You need glasses –
They will help you see.”
They went to the eye doctor
In their big red car.
Andy fell asleep –
It was ever so far.
The doctor was big
In a crisp, white coat.
Andy looked in a box
At a little boat.
They picked out some glasses
To match his blue eyes.
It was now time to go –
They said their goodbyes.
When they came back home,
He had glasses to wear,
And some little ones, too,
For his teddy bear.
He looked all around,
Now he could see.
He could run right past
That little tree.
Melissa, who lived
In the house next door,
Said, “Those glasses suit you,
Andy – for sure!”
Andy could read from
His favorite book.
He went to the mirror
And took a big look.
He said, “Hey! I look
So different now.”
He took off his glasses
And put them down.
He started to cry
And his dad came in.
“Andy, what’s wrong?
And why all this din?”
“I think,” Andy sobbed,
“That they make me look bad.”
“Hey, you’re still Andy –
And you’re cool,” said Dad.
Andy put on his glasses
And went out to play.
His friends had a laugh about
How he looked that day.
But Andy just grinned
And said, “I’m so proud
To be who I am –
I’ll yell it out loud!”
