Chapter 12

Astrid was smiling still when she went inside the dungeon prison to get the blood sample for the research that His Holiness demanded. She was smiling like an idiot when she heard another voice against the darkness.

“So, did I miss anything fun, Huntress?” Aaron asked, smirking when his green, emerald eyes were shining against the dim light.

Astrid grimaced, glaring at Aaron who still had a smirk plastered to his lips. She was setting up the appliance that she would be using for his blood sample. The procedure to procure his blood sample should not have been so hard since Aaron was still considered a human even though he had superhuman speed and strength.

Plus, Astrid knew that she could handle him if anything went down the drain during the process. She was dying to pitch against Aaron Covaci to see if her training bore any fruitful result.

Astrid scoffed. “It’s none of your business, Covaci, whether I’m happy, sad, annoyed, and angry or anything!” she retorted. Aaron smirked, leaning his head back against the wall.

Taking a syringe and the clear liquid contained inside the small vial, Astrid filled the syringe with a hemlock that could knock him out. She concentrated on her task. She furrowed her eyebrows while her tongue stuck out of her mouth. Aaron’s green, emerald eyes were tracing her lips while smirking the whole time.

“Oh, I bet it’s my business, dragul meu. The news of being asked to be someone’s wife is hardly fun... especially when you’re confined to do anything about it,” he stated before Astrid stopped in her action. She turned sharply at him.

Again, Aaron smirked. “Admit it, you don’t want to be his wife, dragul meu. You rather remain a spinster than marry someone you don’t love,” he added.

Astrid gulped before putting the syringe and hemlock onto the tray in front of her. “For your information, Covaci, His Holiness is the greatest thing that ever happened in this world. You’ll not disregard him like that!” she hissed before smirking.

“Besides—” Astrid drawled on her statement as she showed him the syringe filled with hemlock, “he’s better than you in every way, Covaci.” She added. Then, Astrid stepped forward to start the procedure of collecting a blood sample of Pure Blood.

Aaron smirked as if he did not find the syringe frightening at all. Astrid scowled at him. She stood in front of Aaron. His green, emerald eyes were staring at her face. Astrid blushed.

“So, what will you say, dragul meu? I heard he gave you three days to give the right answer. That plenty of times for you to change your mind,” he said, chuckling softly.

“Perhaps I can make you change your mind last minute, dragul meu,” Aaron whispered confidently before Astrid rolled her eyes at him. She scoffed.

“Are you always this confident with any woman, Covaci? No wonder you’re single until now since no one can tie you into knots,” she mocked as Aaron leaned against the wall. He leaned closer when Astrid stepped closer to push the hemlock into his body through his jugular vein.

“Only with you, dragul meu. Not everyone is entitled to see this side of me,” Aaron replied as Astrid rolled her eyes.

“It’s a good thing for His Holiness to ask my hands in marriage. It would strengthen the Order even more when a power couple is managing them,” Astrid mumbled as Aaron chuckled softly.

“Come on, dragul meu. It’s hardly fair to me. You haven’t given me an answer when I asked you to be mine. So technically, you still owe me an answer. So, what’s it going to be? Yes... or no?” Aaron whispered huskily as Astrid looked at him hotly. He smirked, showing his retracted fangs in the dim light. Shaking her head, Astrid punched the syringe into his jugular vein to kick Aaron out.

“That’s stings, dragul meu,” he whined.

Astrid rolled her eyes. “Don’t be such a baby,” she mumbled as she took the syringe out. The wound closed up immediately as her violet eyes were staring at his neck.

Aaron chuckled. “Just answer me this one tiny question, Astrid,” he said, rolling her name against his tongue like candy floss. Astrid shivered when it hit her eardrums.

Huh, weird...I’ve never had that reaction with His Holiness when I’m with him, Astrid mused as she stepped back to allow the hemlock to settle inside Aaron’s body.

“So, dragul meu, I was thinking... If His Holiness kisses you, his competence can never be compared with me, am I right?” Aaron asked nonchalantly. Astrid narrowed her eyes.

Is this bastard immune to the hemlock or what? She mused as she stepped closer. Aaron smiled provocatively like a Cheshire cat as he leaned closer. His green orbs were glistening in the dark.

“Why would you even say that? You don’t even know if I like his kiss more than you, Covaci,” Astrid said hotly when Aaron smirked at her. Damn him with his eyes glistening in the dim light as she looked at him.

Hmm... Should we test it out again, dragul meu? You know I love it whenever you take advantage of me,” Aaron stated. Astrid wanted to protest his claim when the memories of their shared kisses intruded her mind. Instantly, Astrid blushed.

“God, you’re unbelievable, you insolent oaf!” she hissed through her gritted teeth. Astrid looked at him. Aaron arched his eyebrow, smirking as his fangs glittered against the darkness.
