Chapter 22

Astrid knew what she hoped for would never be achieved with Aaron Covaci. He was...different. To him, time was only but a flick in his existence.

However, for a mere mortal like herself, Astrid could not help but be insecure if he would take her to be his lover only to fulfill his past time in this lifetime.

Maybe, it was not meant to be when his face was unreadable. Astrid sighed for she knew the answer to her request.

“Maybe I should—”

“Don’t you dare say another word, Astrid Larsen,” Aaron growled as he yanked Astrid into a hug. He nuzzled her neck as he kissed her racing pulse.

“Nowhere to run or hide, dragul meu, for you will be marrying me,” Aaron said huskily.

Astrid gasped as she was staring into his green eyes. Aaron smirked, perking her lips before her stretched out his hand upward. Then, a red box was flying out of nowhere.

It hovered before them. Aaron flicked his hand. The box opened up. Astrid gasped as tears were filling the brim of her eyes as she saw the most beautiful amethyst engagement ring.

“Oh Aaron, min kjærlighet,” Astrid said as she cupped Aaron’s face. Her eyes shone with all the love that she had to give to the man that she loved.

“It’s...beautiful, Aaron. How did you—? When did you have the time to find me a ring?” Astrid asked, smiling at him. She was caressing Aaron’s jaws as she smiled weakly.

Chuckling softly, Aaron held out his hand as if he wanted to hold her hand. Astrid arched her eyebrow in question.

“May I, dragul meu?” he asked as a smirk was plastered to his lips. Astrid laughed at his brazen attitude.

“My, my, min kjærlighet... if I don’t know any better, I would say you are confident with yourself. You know, I don’t even have an answer for your proposal just yet,” Astrid said but moving her hand all the same. She put her hand in Aaron’s outstretch hand as he smirked.

The ring was floating away as it got out of the red box. The box closed and flew toward the small table to settle there. The ring flew onto his right hand.

“What I can say, dragul meu? I’m confident enough that I might already know what your answer is will be to my proposal,” Aaron said confidently when he slipped the engagement ring onto her finger.

Astrid flex her fingers. The weight of the ring was strange but her heart flipped at the sight of the shining amethyst.

“Now, dragul meu, you cannot run from me forever even if you want to for you are mine,” Aaron growled huskily. Then, he claimed Astrid on the lips. She gasped at the possessiveness that he showed.

However, Astrid was feeling the same when she pulled him closer. She was gripping his nape and moaned in the kiss that they shared together.

Aaron’s hands were roaming her lithe body. Astrid arched her throat as she was gripping his hair in her hands.

The passion between them were combusting, burning the heat away as Aaron tore his mouth from hers to leave wet kisses on her throat and finding his mark.

“Gods, Astrid... If you don’t stop now, I don’t think I can stop either, dragul meu,” Aaron said against her skin. He left his wet kisses along the jaws and throat before Astrid pulled him by the hair. He leaned back as she was looking at his face.

Astrid smiled, caressing his lower lip. His tongue slipped out to lick her thumb. She smirked then leaned closer to kiss his nose.

Aaron smiled, chuckling softly as he settled his hands on her waist. His hands roamed on her backside as Astrid arched her eyebrow.

“Now, dragul meu, shall we move forward with that kiss? I seem to recall that I was entitled to continue if you accept my proposal. Besides,” Aaron said as he caressed the engagement ring that glinted in the dim light.

“I seem to remember that you’re finally agreed to be my wife,” he stated smugly, arching his eyebrow. His Cheshire cat smirk was plastered to his lips.

Astrid punched his arm lightly. A scowl was on her lips as he was laughing with her reaction.

“Alright, alright, dragul meu. We will not be doing that if you wish to stand in the holy matrimony ceremony first before we get down and dirty with each other,” Aaron said as he stared at his fiancée.

Yet,”

Astrid rolled her eyes at his jest but a crooked smile can be seen on her lips. She stepped out of Aaron’s embrace as she was moving around the house. Her whiskey in hand. Her violet eyes were taking in the interior design of Aaron’s humble crib.

There was nothing much going in the living room. It was nice with a fireplace that will be roaring during winter time. The seating of the divans in front of it gave out the homey ambience to anyone who will be spending some time there.

Then, Astrid was making her way into the kitchen. She opened the cabinets as Aaron was leaning against the arch. His heart was beating with happiness when Astrid’s presence soothed his darker side.

Astrid opened the icebox that was sitting on the floor and saw that the food was none to be find inside the house. She sighed, thinking that it was time for them to buy groceries if they were going to lay low for a while.

Perhaps, they could go to the farmer’s market after their stop from the city hall to register their union.

“My though exactly, dragul meu. Who knows you’re such a strategist in handling domestic chores for a former Huntress?” Aaron teased as he stared at him. His hands were crossed at his chest.

Astrid was sending daggers through her stare at him but her lips were smiling at his teasing comment.

Aaron knew that she was not angry or discomfort with him reading any thought that she might project outward.

Not after the bloodletting that they shared together and confession that followed. She was his fiancée, for god sake!

“If you think so, dragul meu, then we need to prepare for the documents for our union to run smoothly. Do you have any copy of your important documents that we need for our union tomorrow?” Aaron asked, moving toward the seating area in front of the fireplace. It roared to life as Aaron flicked the switch with his mind.

Astrid nodded as she pulled her iPhone to get all the documents that were needed to conduct the union between them at the city hall tomorrow.

“Good, we can sort that out as soon as possible. If you need anything, I’ll be in my study,” he said after he moved the logs around to ensure that the fireplace was burning for the longest time.

Astrid followed him in pursuit as Aaron was stepping under the arch that led to his study on the other side of the house.

Min kjærlighet? Are you leaving me to my own devices?” she asked as Aaron arched his eyebrow.

“Don’t you want to have a moment for yourself? I read in your thought earlier—”

“Don’t you want to give me a tour of the house, min kjærlighet? We might be living here longer than we thought we would so it would be advisable for me to learn the floor plan,” Astrid said, cutting him off as she was smiling sweetly at him.

Aaron was staring. His gaze focused on her mouth before he was clearing his throat. Astrid smiled sweetly when he offered her his arm. She took it.

“Alright then, dragul meu, if you insisted. Who am I to refuse my fiancée’s request after all?” Aaron replied as he took Astrid around to venture his humble crib.

“Here are the living room as you might have already know. That way leads to the kitchen. Underneath that arch at the end of the long hallway is my study.

“The room next to it is my private library. The guest bedroom is across this hallway and our bedroom is upstairs. Any more questions, dragul meu?” Aaron as he looked at Astrid who was browsing the books on the bookshelves.

“What about the books in the living room? Are those from your private collection as well?” she asked, tracing her finger against the spine of an old, leather-bound book. She arched her eyebrow with a knowing smile. Aaron smirked.

“If you would like to know, why don’t you explore it yourself, dragul meu?” he replied as Astrid squeaked, perking his lips and went outside the library to read some of the fictional books that she found intriguing in the living room.

He shook his head and made his way toward his study to prepare their documentations for their upcoming union tomorrow.
