Astrid blinked her eyes once and again. She was staring at the marriage certificate she just filled out when Aaron asked her to last night. Now, she was holding that important document that needed to be submitted with her supporting documents for her to be officially united with her beloved Aaron.
It was great as well as terrifying at the same time that she would finally be tying the knot to the one man that she had been dreaming about since their meeting in Sicily, Italy a few weeks ago.
Astrid didn’t know if she was willing to change her last name—from Larsen to Covaci—in a blink of an eye as well as her main location of residency. If she didn’t know any better, she was planning to make their honeymoon trip out into the northern hemisphere where her family resided.
Perhaps, she could visit her cousin for a while before settling her new role into their life together as Aaron’s lawfully wedded wife—and mate in his bizarre culture of Blue Blood.
Moreover, her husband, Aaron—Astrid loved thinking of him in that way—convinced her after they had their discussion last night that they would be visiting her family in Norway when the right time finally came for them to travel—without having any problems with the Order that will try to locate both of them for breaching the contract between The Order of the Holy and the abomination that they despised so much.
Well, love had its way of gripping someone to be out of their comfort zone and making them fall in love in its mysterious ways—especially for aformerHuntress of the Order of the Holy with her prey.
“Are you regretting the decision, dragul meu?” Aaron asked huskily against her ear. They were sitting in the waiting area of the city hall to register their marriage according to Romanian law.
Astrid looked up, smiling as she was gripping the file that contained every important document that she had collected throughout her lifetime to be here in that moment with her fiancé. She smiled at him before shaking her head.
“Not in the slightest, min kjærlighet. You know I would move heaven and earth to be with you in this Known World,” she replied, perking his lips as Aaron smirked. He gripped her hand tightly as they waited for their numbers to submit the marriage application to the officials of the city hall.
“Mr. Covaci and Miss Larsen. Please come to counter number 4,” the official called out for their names. Aaron and Astrid stared at each other before they walked up to the counter.
Astrid was gripping the file in her hand tightly as she was looking at the official who was staring at her intently. It might be her imagination that everyone out there was coming after her after she abandoned her post in the Order.
However, the calmness that she felt from Aaron calmed her heartbeat for a moment as her fiancé asked her to hand out the supporting documents for their marriage registration.
The official thanked her as he looked over the documents and the marriage application. His eyes were scanning thoroughly as sweat rolled down Astrid’s back. Aaron settled his hand on her lower back as he spoke to her in the most intimate way that mates could with each other.
Are you afraid, dragul meu? Aaron asked as Astrid bit her lower lips.
A little, yes. I was afraid the Order would know about our location and they would attack us against the public. It would not be beneath them to do such things when the fate between two worlds was on a thread, she replied as Aaron chuckled. Her bloody fiancé just kissed her temple with his sinful lips.
I’m sure they would be preoccupied with something else, dragul meu. You do not have to worry about a thing, especially on our wedding day, Aaron stated as Astrid nodded her head.
I wish it was true but my instinct never disappointed me before. It is better if I was on alert for both of us, min kjærlighet, she replied as Aaron chuckled softly.
“I wouldn’t have it any other way, dragul meu,” he whispered against her ear as the official was rearranging their documents with his stamp of approval. He looked at both of them and smiled.
“Congratulations on your wedding, Mr. Covaci and Miss Larsen. The registration for your marriage will be done in three days. We just need to make sure that everything is in order and I understand that you wish to change your surname, Miss Larsen?” the official asked, directing his gaze toward Astrid. She looked at Aaron for confirmation if she was doing the right thing. Aaron arched his eyebrow.
It’s your choice, dragul meu. I would not want to force you if you’re uncomfortable with the idea of discarding your parents’ surname, he whispered as Aaron caressed her knuckles.
Astrid’s throat constricted as she gulped. She never thought to change her surname before because she thought she would not be married to anyone else if she continued her path as the Huntress of the Order.
Now, everything was at stake as she would love nothing more than to change her surname according to her husband’s. However, she would forgo the thought of having her parents’ surname that had lasted with her for twenty-four years of her existence in the Known World.
If you were in my place, would you change your last name to mine if I asked you to? She asked, wanting to have a tangible answer from her fiancé to be the turning point of her decision.
You know I would move heaven and earth for you, dragul meu. Of course, I would change my surname in a heartbeat if you asked me to. You know I do anything for you, Aaron replied truthfully.
Astrid smiled, knowing that her next decision would be the best course of action for both of them. She squeezed Aaron’s hand as she looked at the official who was staring at both of them.
“My fiancé and I have decided to combine our surnames. I hope that’s amendable here during this stage of our marriage registration?” Astrid asked as the official smiled at her.
“Well, of course. It would be our honor to fulfill the needs of the married couple. We get that started for both of you,” the official stated as he wrote a memo on their marriage application.
Astrid smiled as she looked at Aaron. His green eyes and Cheshire cat’s smile were plastered on his lips as Aaron pulled her close under his shoulder. She hugged Aaron’s waist as they both waited for their application to go through with the decision that changed their course forever as a married couple.
