I am hugely grateful to Quadrille Publishing for affording me the space and time to ponder, practise and perfect the slow process, which this book ultimately celebrates. Texture has been a very personal journey through the landscapes that have inspired me, and that continue to inform my design, but I would never have been able to reach the destination without the phenomenally professional and creative team with whom I am privileged to work. Thank you all for pushing the boundaries and allowing this book to evolve and grow throughout the process.
It is rare that one finds a collaborator both as compatible in style and as patient and understanding as my commissioning editor Harriet Butt. I am indebted to her quiet confidence and steer, and it is Harriet’s steadfast belief in, and championing of, this project that has brought it to fruition.
Claire Rochford as Art Director and Designer, capably assisted by Gemma Hayden and Alicia House, has made an enormous contribution to the look and feel of this book. Thank you for taking me out of my comfort zone and having the vision to see a new zenith that I wasn’t sure we could achieve.
I feel so fortunate to have had the opportunity to have met and worked with India Hobson. A true visionary with the most exacting and sophisticated eye, but with an incredible ease of working that is a joy to witness. India and Magnus are the most extraordinary team, surpassing all my expectations and capturing the light and textures of my minds eye with intuitive skill.
Thank you to Twig Hutchinson for her effortless and innate sense of style, and to Maxine Smith for adeptly enhancing the understated elegance of models Leili St Clair, Prim Patnasiri, Lizzie Mawson and Simon Butt.
Rosee Woodland and Amelia Hodsdon of Lightwork Collective have a true passion for mathematical accuracy and clarity of instruction that I am unable to equal and only too happy to outsource. I am forever appreciative of their meticulous attention to detail and comprehensive checking that have made technical editing a true art form.
I am honored to have collaborated with designer Sarah Hatton and all around knit guru Gillian Ely, both of whom have an unrivalled creativity and skill honed through passion.
It is the dedicated and all too often anonymous women crafters that first inspired me to pick up some needles, but I cannot sing the praises loudly enough for the incredible and talented team that sample and test knit for me now. Thank you Jill Chapman, Christine Downie, Sarah Ford, Joanne Marsh, Mandy Mears, Sue Ross, Jemima Schlee, Anthea Willis, Juliana Yeo and most especially and always to my partner in craft, Sally Lee. It is hard to sum up in a few words all that you have contributed to this book. Thank you for your expertise, enthusiasm and encouragement throughout.
A crafter is only as good as her tools, and I have to thank Coco Knits, The Fibre Co, Isager, Lykke, Rowan and The Uncommon Thread for creating beautiful quality accessories, needles and yarns and for generously supporting this book.
Finally, this book is dedicated to all makers.
