The coastline is the boundary where the sea meets the land, with swirling water around rocky outcrops or waves breaking on a sandy beach. The contrast between solid rock and constantly moving water is endlessly fascinating. Sand is formed into flowing ripples by the water, decorated with tangles of seaweed uncovered by the tide, or patterned with drifts of sea-smooth pebbles. Once bright colours are muted and softened by the salty sea air.
