This oversized sweater is knitted with two yarns held together, with a lace stitch pattern back and front, an integral V-neck to the front and a contrast-texture K1, P1 back neck trim. The sleeves are picked up at the armhole and worked in stocking stitch in the round to the cuff, where they end in K1, P1 rib.

18 sts and 24 rows to 10cm measured over St st and patt using 5mm needles and one strand of each yarn held together, after steaming. Change needle size as necessary to ensure the correct tension.

Shape front neck:

Working in patt where possible and all other sts in St st, cont as foll:

Next row (RS): Patt to 6 sts before marker, P2tog, K1, P1, K2, turn and leave rem sts on a holder. 54(63:72:81) sts.

Shape left front neck:

Working in patt where possible and all other sts in St st, cont as foll:

Next row (dec) (WS): [K1, P1] twice, Skp, patt to end of row.

Next row (dec): Patt to last 6 sts, P2tog, K1, P1, K2.

Shape right front neck:

With RS facing, using 5mm needles and one strand of each yarn held tog, resume working on rem sts as foll:

FINISH

Pm 16(17:18:19)cm down from shoulders to mark armhole positions.

Join both shoulder seams using back stitch, or mattress stitch if preferred.

Join side seams to armhole markers.

SLEEVES

Both alike, worked in stocking stitch and K1, P1 rib.

With RS facing, using 5mm circular needle and one strand of each yarn held together, pick up and K 58(62:66:70) sts evenly around armhole. Pm for start of round.

K 7 rounds.

Next round: K3, Skp, knit to last 5 sts, K2tog, K3.

Dec as set on foll 8th(8th:7th:7th) rounds until 40(52:48:52) sts, then on foll 0(7th:0:0) rounds until 40(44:48:52) sts.

Cont straight until sleeve meas 32(30:28:28) cm from pick-up.

Change to 4.5mm needles.

Next round: [K1, P1] to end of round.

Rep last round 3 times more.

Cast off in rib.

Weave in any ends on the WS of the work. Choose a flat padded surface or blocking board, pin work out to measurements with WS facing. Cover with a damp cloth and gently steam. Leave to dry flat.
