THE HEALY HOUSE (KITCHEN), MORNING
Mary Jane is fussing around at the kitchen table. Steve enters, dressed for work.
STEVE: Hey.
MARY JANE: Hi there.
Steve leans in to kiss Mary Jane. She recoils.
MARY JANE: I haven’t brushed my teeth yet. You know I’m not a big morning kisser.
STEVE: You’re not such a fan at night either. Is there a timeslot that works for you?
Frankie enters, wearing denim cutoff shorts and holding a protest sign she made last night.
FRANKIE: Dad, you’re home?
STEVE: I’m going in late today so we can celebrate Nick’s acceptance.
Mary Jane holds up her phone to take a photo of the breakfast she’s made.
MARY JANE: (lightly) What filter should I use for these pancakes? Hudson, Valencia...
FRANKIE: Suburban Despair?
Before Mary Jane can complain, Steve cuts her off (purposely) by greeting Nick as he enters the kitchen.
STEVE: (interrupting) Here he is! Our future Harvard grad.
NICK: You bought that shirt before you knew I got in?
STEVE: Well, you’ve never let us down before!
MARY JANE: I made pancakes! Don’t worry—they’re paleo; you can tell Coach we didn’t cheat.
NICK: Thanks, Mom.
