MARY JANE: I need help.
STEVE: Well, you’re about to get 90 days of help. It’s a nice place. They’ll let the kids visit every Saturday. (mock excited) They even have a therapy dog named Curtis!
MARY JANE: Wow, can’t wait! (then) What about after that? When I come home?
STEVE: Well, maybe we could try helping each other. Like the therapist said.
MARY JANE: Yeah. She said we could help heal each other.
STEVE: I never meant to make you feel like work was more important than you and the kids. I didn’t realize how much I missed. I’m sorry. I’ve made so many mistakes. I’m such a mess.
MARY JANE: I’m detoxing from opiates. I win.
They hug. Nick enters (wearing different clothes, to show passage of time).
NICK: I pulled the car around.
MARY JANE: Where’s Frankie?
NICK: She’s downtown.
STEVE: She organized a big rally. It’s today.
MARY JANE: A rally? For what?
NICK: (hesitant) For Bella.
MARY JANE: Nick. I was wrong. Forget about what people think of us. You have to go to the police. Tell them everything.
STEVE: Mary Jane—he already did.
MARY JANE: (after a beat) Have you talked to Bella? How is she?
NICK: I don’t know if I can face her.
