Camryn
I sat upright in the tent, awoken from my sleep yet again. At first, I felt annoyed that I couldn’t fall – and, more importantly, stay sleep – but then the feeling hit me right in the gut.
Something wasn’t right with Jax. I could just feel it. Something had gone terribly wrong, but I wasn’t entirely sure what it was or what it could’ve been.
He obviously wasn’t dead or else I would’ve been dead, too. But something had changed with him. Something that left me with an incredibly weird feeling.
I tried to shake the thought away, but I knew that I was probably only being paranoid. Given everything that had been going on, of course I was going to feel out of sorts. I wouldn’t feel normal until I saw Jax again.
But as much as I tried to shake the feeling, it just didn’t seem to leave me. It sat there in the bottom of my gut.
And that’s when I began to feel the darkness consuming me even further. It wasn’t just bad feelings. I suddenly no longer felt like myself.
I tried to convince myself that the only reason I felt that way was due to lack of sleep and stress, but I couldn’t help but think that it was something more than that.
At that moment, I heard a voice whisper, “Camryn?”
I glanced around the tent, but I didn’t see anyone. Except the voice felt so incredibly close...
“Camryn, it’s me, Roxy,” the voice continued.
“Roxy? I don’t see you,” I replied.
“I know. I’m sort of invisible.”
“W-what are you doing here?” I asked shakily. The fact that Roxy was invisible and inside my tent made me feel uneasy. Roxy was a Hunter and I was, well, a wolf. I knew she was probably there to kill me.
Well, she had another thing coming to her. I wasn’t about to go down without a fight.
“I’m not going to hurt you, Camryn,” Roxy said, as if reading my mind. “I need you to help me.”
“How can I help you?” I asked.
“Isaac is still in my body. I need you to get him out.”
“But there’s no way I can do that,” I insisted.
“I promise that if you get Isaac out of my body, I will leave you and your friends alone forever. You have my word.”
“It’s not just that, Roxy. Everyone says there’s no way to get one of the Shade out of their host body unless they choose to leave willingly. I doubt Isaac wants to leave your body.”
“Actually, that’s where you’re wrong. There is a way,” Roxy replied.
“How? How do I do it?” I wasn’t going to lie. I couldn’t help but get my hopes up. Once we got Jax back, I still would’ve loved to help Jeremy. Even though being away from Jax had made me realize that Jeremy and I never could’ve had a future with one another, I still didn’t think it was fair that one of the Shade had claimed Jeremy’s body. And I still partially blamed myself for that.
“I don’t know how. That’s what I need your help with,” Roxy said. “I need you to find out how to do it.”
I frowned. “How am I supposed to find out?”
“From what I’ve been told, there’s only one wolf out there who knows how to do it.”
“Who?” I questioned.
“Dominique,” she replied.
“Who’s Dominique?” I asked. There was no response. “Roxy? Are you still there?” Again, no response.
She was gone. Roxy was gone.
