Foreword

Ann Todhunter Brode started her training with me in 1973. Over the years, I have witnessed her learning, teaching, pondering, and generous sharing with her clients and students. As a gifted teacher and writer, Ann has developed brilliant ways to help people listen to, understand, respect, and work with their body’s innate wisdom. A Guide to Body Wisdom is an impressive self-help book designed to offer her effective techniques and vast experience to many others.

Even if you have a shelf full of self-improvement books, you’ll want to read this one. This is why: Over the past twenty years, health and wellness books have changed the way we think about our bodies. These books often overlook the possibility that the body might possess an intelligence of its own—a unique wisdom that could get on board and help us be smarter in every aspect of our lives. A Guide to Body Wisdom gives you all the guidance and information you need to change this mindset and build a new, healthy relationship with your body.

Yes, it can be challenging to change thoughts and behaviors shaped over a lifetime, but the importance of this book couldn’t be more profound. When stress, multitasking, and virtual reality seem to have sidelined the body, putting it front and center becomes a viable way to return to balance and sensibility. Let this book introduce you to a body-mind relationship that just feels natural. Such an alliance is truly one of your most valuable assets.

Ann Todhunter Brode has written a book that fleshes out the missing half of the mind-body equation. The depth of her understanding, vision, experience, and communication skill make her an excellent facilitator for transformational growth and healing.

It is with great pleasure that I invite you to start or continue your journey on page one.
