Jay,
Dude, that email kind of freaked me out. I thought it was bullshit at first, but the night before I was supposed to go on that patrol, I couldn’t sleep and convinced myself something terrible was going to happen. I went to sick call in the morning, telling them I had puked during the night and felt like shit. The CO was pissed that it screwed up the manning assignments, but the rest of the company went out anyway. I ended up sitting around, feeling like an asshole for staying back while my brothers-in-arms put their asses on the line. Fortunately, everyone came back just fine, so I don’t know what to think. This is a war zone, after all, and getting spun up over shit that MIGHT happen isn’t helpful.
Not trying to sound like a dick—I know you were just looking out and all. Don’t worry about it. Word is we’ll be back stateside by Christmas. I intend to take some leave and come home. We’re gonna go out and party and drink the town dry of beer—that’s for damn sure. All the dads around town better keep their daughters locked up, hahaha.
Later,
Mike
