Z CONSENTING TOMATOES

ZAL ON TOMORROW BELONGS TO ME

The echo of the last album had only just subsided. It had even captivated the Americans with a mixture of dislocated humour and moments of sensational parody. Only, just as your heart begins to reconcile these things, back in the garage in North London we sat as if the eternal stream had blown dry and mutated. There seemed to be no escape; we were to be part of something forever unsettled – but the arid processes of doubt and speculation were finally blown away.

Tomorrow is an album that continues to enforce SAHB’s energy for self-mutilating diversity. And as with all SAHB albums there was one track that presupposes an immediate way out. It was the one great chocolate in the box; and this time the song was Chef.

Action Strasse: Chug-chug meets dusky maiden rummaging around in your trousers. What a circus routine that would make!

Snake Bite: Recorded in the famous Apple Studios. Feedback guitar solo shows what a great producer Dave is…

Soul in Chains: Extreme innuendo about consenting tomatoes – I think!

The Tale of the Giant Stone Eater: Conservation for the 21st century; a delightful opus whose alliteration is bound up in biospheres and the brutality of progress.

Ribs & Balls: Funky bastard of a riff. Alex loved this kind of shit and fails to keep a straight face throughout. See? I told you this band has no shame.

Give My Compliments to the Chef: Something of a masterpiece – and again it’s Alex’s lyrical mischievousness and Hugh’s striking mood that sets up the groove.

Sharks Teeth: Jazz confusion of dubious parentage. Love the Richard Widmark line and the south sea strum in the middle. Indulgent, in-house humour that rarely transmits…

Shake That Thing: How dare they record a track without me?

Tomorrow Belongs to Me: Now Cabaret was a great movie, but what the fuck is this all about? Crassness that still rebounds like a monkey fuckin’ a weasel.

To Be Continued: Bear with me on this one!
