“Yes, Corporal Constantino, I recall meeting you.” Stone tried to keep his voice professional, hoping she wasn’t going to ask him anything personal.

“I was surprised when I contacted your homicide division and was given your name to help us out with a murder inquiry. It was a bit of a coincidence.”

He could hear the hint of amusement in her voice. He almost replied that there weren’t any coincidences, but decided not to push his philosophy. “What kind of murder inquiry?”

“A Travis Moore was murdered on the same day last Saturday, that is the same day we met, in his home in Stony Plain. It turns out he had just recently moved to Stony Plain from Edmonton, so I was checking to see if he had any history with the local police.”

“Okay, I’ll do a background check. You said he was murdered last Saturday? And you just discovered his body?”

“We received a distraught call yesterday and are now just following up on leads. Do you have time to get together? I’d like to hear your thoughts on the case. It seems you have an excellent reputation for solving cases.”

Roberts launched a barrage of questions after the phone conversation ended. “She sounded like she likes you. Why and how did you meet her? What does she look like? Do you think she only wants to meet you about a murder case?”

Stone rolled his eyes. “Good Lord, crank down the inquisition.”

“Then talk.”

“I met her because I was speeding on my way back from my trip to Alberta Beach. She stopped me and just gave me a warning. End of story.”

“End of story? I don’t think so.”

“What you think is not going to get me to talk any more about this.”

“Really? I have my ways to get you to talk.” She gave him a grin.

Peter McNab sat in his office, going over the day’s events. He hadn’t expected to have problems in his troupe. He knew there could be personality problems among actors, but he didn’t foresee what had transpired today. McNab blamed Church for the situation, deciding he had taken advantage of Conner. He shouldn’t be taking advantage of women in the play. I hope nothing else goes wrong.
